2018 marks the centenary of women getting the vote. To mark this momentous occasion, there have been a number of events happening across the UK over the past year. One of the really exciting things has been the Sufferage Flag Relay. This is a relay of a huge sufferage flag from place to place, landmark to landmark right across the country – and beyond – it has even visited a number of the commonwealth nations. This year-long event culminates with a march of the flag back to Downing Street on November 14th (exactly 100 years from the day that some women got to cast their very first vote). The relay has had huge online presence and has built a real following over the year (see #SufferageFlagRelay on twitter)

This week The Study School had the very privileged opportunity of the flag being brought into The Study School before making its final journey back to Downing Street. Mrs Al-Shemmeri gave a talk during assembly on the Sufferage movement and the centenary. We found out that the colours have special significance:

Purple – dignity

White – purity

Green – hope

Thank you to Sophia’s mother for organising this exciting event.
